FIND Training Session Descriptions

Basic Trainings (Prerequisite to Advanced Training)

Session 1:
This two hour session will cover an overview of history of disability laws including the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In addition, we look at the roles a parent/guardian plays in assuring the rights for their children, the resources that can help their children, and the roles of the school for children with special needs.

Session 2:
This two hour session will look at the step-by-step process of developing an appropriate Individualized Education Program (IEP). It will also include information and tools for dispute resolution and problem solving and working effectively with the ARC team.

Topical Trainings
Special guests are invited to speak on specific topics of interest that relate to education and the IDEA process. Such topics may include transition, inclusion, behavioral and emotional issues, medications or any other issue our parents bring to our attention. Please feel free to let us know what you would like to learn more about via email.

Advanced Trainings
Our Advanced Trainings are in depth, hands-on lessons of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), the Individual Education Program (IEP) process, and the art of negotiation and collaboration within the ARC team.
